Maura Plante is a Co-Founder of the Florida Health and Nutrition Coalition, and is also the Founder and CEO of Living Hungry, a nonprofit, community-based organization. She co-designed and runs the Healthy Food Prescription, a Medically Tailored Groceries program for diabetic patients in Palm Beach County for 10 years. The Healthy Food Prescription research study conducted by Tufts University Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy, by Principal Investigator Dr. Dariush Mozaffarian MD, MPH, and Dr. Kurt Hager was completed in 2023 and presented to SNEB and FAND with the results of a decrease in HBA1C’s by -0.8-point in 6 months.
Maura is a national speaker and advocate for Food is Medicine. She earned her Masters in Clinical Psychology from Columbia University, is a published author on domestic violence and the interplay with Chinese culture in the New York Academy of Science Annals. Her present focus is on building food is medicine programs and networks across Florida to integrate medically tailored groceries, meals and produce prescriptions into clinical healthcare. Maura drafted and ran three Medicaid Bills for FIM demonstration pilots in the Florida House and Senate and operates 8 regional networks of excellence using the Milken Institute Feeding Change Food Rx stakeholder map model and is conducting novel pilots of FiM programs across Florida.
