Joan Lo, MD, is a Senior Research Scientist in the Division of Research at Kaiser Permanente Northern California and an Assistant Program Director for the Internal Medicine Residency at Kaiser Permanente Oakland. Her research portfolio focuses on cardiometabolic health across the lifespan and skeletal health among older adults.
In addition to her research, Joan is an Endocrinologist and Lifestyle Medicine-trained physician educator. She has collaborated on Food is Medicine research projects designed to improve cardiovascular and metabolic outcomes in patients with chronic health conditions, including diabetes, heart failure and chronic kidney disease, among others. Through her work in graduate medical education, she has partnered with culinary medicine experts to develop educational and interactive workshops for physicians in training. Joan has a deep passion for developing programs that empower physicians to adopt diet and lifestyle behaviors that will improve the health and well-being of themselves and their patients.
